The Cult of Speed Meets the Slow Movement

THE CULT OF SPEED MEETS THE SLOW MOVEMENT
Exhibition Dates: March 9- April 8, 2006
Opening Reception: Thursday, March 9

“There is more to life than increasing its speed” -Ghandi

There is a growing international movement that says by taking some of the speed out of modern life, we can live better as a result. These days, our culture teaches us that faster is better. But in the race to keep up, everything suffers – our world, diet and health, our relationships and sex lives. We are in such a hurry that anyone or anything that slows us down, becomes the enemy. For this exhibition we are interested in challenging the cult of speed. Is slow really better? And if so how do we slow down?

Artists: Franco DeFrancesco, Fran Freeman, Brenda Goldstein, Julian Haladyn & Miriam Jordon, Linelle Le Moine, Sarah Massecar, Patricia Reed, Ilona Staples and Sheila A. Wilson.
