The Corporate World, the worst and best visions for a new corporation

Picture
THE CORPORATE WORLD
January 13- February 27
Opening Reception: Thursday January 13, 7-10 pm

The Corporate World: The corporation has become an omnipotent institution. Power and profit driven, it has become an entity that has been given card blanche to bend rules, break laws, create new governments, become governments and upturn the lives of thousands of people in a single downsize.

The exhibition housed the work of artists that created fictitious corporations or legally registered corporations that either layout a new corporate mission or through an internal critique, address issues of corporate culture, identity, ethics, and agendas. The exhibition was set up like a trade show, showcasing the work of each artist in booths that visitors could meet the artists and the artists would pitch their corporate visions.

Artists:
The Allied Reassurance Group by Kevin Temple- For their clients, the Allied Reassurance Group provides an economical minute-to-minute alternative to the deception of insurance that satisfies the desire for unnecessary and expensive coverage. Our trained reassurance experts talk clients through the fear of ill fate until they are satisfied again that nothing bad is going to happen to them or their loved ones.

Bank of Victoria by Victoria Stanton- Recognizing the continued need for artistic/emotional/financial consultation, Ms. Stanton will present a Bank of Victoria™ kiosk during The Corporate World. This kiosk – complete with the Bank's promotional material, balloons bearing the Bank's name and of course resident CEO, Victoria Stanton – will be open for business to the general/art-going public within select hours throughout the tenure of this exhibition.

City Beautification Ensemble- The primary goal of the City Beautification Ensemble is the vigorous and continual battle to off-set the ever increasing blight of dullness…

We believe that colours have long been neglected their rightful place in urban design consideration.  We ask ourselves "why must concrete always be grey?"

and wonder if a dash of colour might not do more for the people of this city.

The Commons- The installation is a parody of corporate speak, self-promotion, and even
their own idealistic art collective's mission statement. By adopting the purposely misleading language of corporate PR, their messages provide little, if any, information about what the Commons actually does. Similar to the academic and obscure language that often accompanies artwork, "We can help you make Today the Tomorrow you dreamed of Yesterday's” messages cloak our collective's achievements, output, and even our production.

The Confessalor by Frank de Francesco- The Confessalor: When you need to connect. Feeling guilty? No time to go to church to confess your sins? With the Confessalor we aim to bring religion back to the people- to instantaneously provide redemption to sinners, in the comfort of their own homes.

European Corrections Corporation by Oliver Ressler & Martin Kren- Welcome to European Corrections Corporation (EUCC). We're delighted that you've chosen to pay us a visit. You may already know that EUCC is the European leader in privatized correctional and detention management. We manage state-of-the-art correctional and detention, and design, construct and finance them as well.

Info Booth by Leah Glushien- Info Booth is a free service inviting callers to share or request information on any subject

Office Art Office- The Office Art Office is an artist collective based in Regina, focused on

the production and sale of artwork.  We use the model of the office for the creation of our artwork, in that we have our studio and show room in an office building and our work is marketed towards the office worker.  We are a democratic collective, each member participates in the creation of each work.

Securnomore by Ilona Staples- Securnomore will maintain a presence in the gallery during opening hours and ensure the safety of the artwork on exhibit, as well as the visitors, staff and the premises. They will also discreetly monitor attendance and provide written reports on any anomalous and suspicious activities that take place on the premises.

Sell All Your Body Time Space by Cary Peppermint & Bill Spornitz- Because we believe first and foremost that a rigorous, comprehensive, and stimulating system of capital and exchange means security for us all. Through our bold, straightforward, and painstakingly honest approach toward the ultimate commodification of every conceivable aspect of the human living experience, we will further evolve a secure, dependable, unwavering system of strict global capitalism. We believe in global corporate reality and we’d like to offer you what we call our Value Based Reality. Join us in securing your future today by becoming part of our comprehensive, market-driven database designed expressly for the freedom and betterment of all peoples.

The Yes Men- The Yes Men have impersonated some of the world's most powerful criminals at conferences, on the web, and on television, in order to correct their identities. They currently have hundreds of thousands of job openings.
